History is in the making this summer. AirDog, the action sports photography drone, will be filming the Plastic Playground professional wakeboarding competition starting Thursday, July 14 in Berkshire, England. This marks the first time ever that autonomous drones are filming an action sports competition.

AirDog, the Latvia-based startup famous for its auto-follow action sport drone, is eager to break new ground in sports video history. Never before have autonomous drones taken primary responsibility in the videography for a major sporting event.

During the event AirDog action sports drones will fly, follow, and film athletes along a pre-programmed flight path. This guarantees the safety of the device, the participants and equipment. AirDog will avoid colliding with any infrastructure, trees or spectators as these factors specific to wakeboarding are programmed into the wakeboarding sports flight modes.

The most noticeable feature of AirDog is its ability to track and frame athletes while in motion. Due to its advanced technology, AirDog is capable of framing an athlete in action with higher accuracy than human pilots. Wakeboarding is a notoriously challenging sport to shoot due to the rapid and often unpredictable motion of the participants. AirDog's custom wakeboarding presets will follow the wakeboarder's every move with absolute accuracy.

AirDog also has dedicated software flight modes for Windsurfing, MTB, Surfing, Backcountry skiing and snowboarding. More flight modes are in development, including kitesurfing, motocross and downhill snow sport modes. These new modes will be released as software updates.
